A Creative Journey Full of Challenges

Producing Prisoners of Apples was no small feat. The project spanned several years, requiring determination to overcome numerous challenges. There were moments of frustration—script rewrites, changing screenwriters, and constant battles for funding. But those struggles shaped the film into the powerful narrative it is today.

“At times, I wished for the AI tools we have today. They could have saved us time and resources during the animation process. However, the constraints forced us to innovate, and every frame became a testament to human perseverance and artistry.”

An Unlikely Hero: The Apple

The documentary uncovers the story of how apples became more than a fruit. Through captivating visuals and compelling storytelling, it explores how apples have shaped economies, cultures, and even human behavior. From the sprawling orchards of history to today’s modern markets, the film asks: who is really in control? Us or the apple?

Prisoners of Apples also showcases a magical corner of Europe, where people and nature coexist in a delicate balance. It invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with this everyday fruit while highlighting the profound ways it impacts our world.

Collaboration at Its Finest

As the film’s director, I had the privilege of working alongside Renata Carenzo and Tomasz Gaj. Their vision and passion brought depth and richness to every frame. Our partnership with Canal+ was instrumental, providing the support needed to bring this story to life.

This project became more than just a film; it became a testament to the power of collaboration. The creative team’s shared drive to deliver excellence made this journey truly unforgettable.

A Documentary That Challenges Perspectives

Prisoners of Apples pushes boundaries and redefines how we view this iconic fruit. It’s a story that reveals not just the apple’s journey but also its unparalleled ability to intertwine itself into human existence.
